Music video of the week #1

This music video, GO!! Fighting Action Power by Area 11, is performance based, and offers some interesting usage of Mise-en-scene. The music track itself is actually the ending theme for the 'Bravoman' Animation series on YouTube, and the clothing of the band members reflect this; Blue, yellow and red make up the majority of Bravoman's colour scheme, and so their costume design makes for a nice example of intertextual reference.

inspiration from lyrics

Following my look at creativity, I listened to Adrennaline Junky a few times, and let my imagination run free I then produced the following drawings based on the lyrics. This could, in turn be the basis for the shots in the music video.

Music Choice

My group has chosen a song from an unsigned local band to use for our music video. The name of the band is Wyson, and the track is 'Adrenaline Junky'. They are an indie/alternative group. Though the track itself does have a video already, we will be creating our own, and will not simply copy the existing footage.

Creativity

To me, creativity is the ability to be able to imagine and make things. This can be in terms of writing, images, dancing, or anything at all, really. To be creative, all you  need is your imagination, and the willingness to let it go wild. You don't really need a lot else; even if you lack a hand or two, there's plenty of ways to get around that. Creativity comes from the mind, and there's always a way to express it.

When it comes to creating a media production, this is obviously a critical part of the process. You need to be creative in how you make the page, or image, or in my case video, in order to make it interesting. Creativity gives the ideas on what to put in the video, how to amplify the lyrics. A Concept-based video is a prime example of creativity at work, as it is the foundation of everything you see- the lyrics may not have all that much to do with it in some cases, after all.

According to Sir Ken Robinson, creativity depends on being prepared to be wrong, and is 'the process of having original ideas that have value'. Although I can understand his point, I do not necessarily agree with him. Creativity, in my mind, often cannot be right OR wrong. Think of a child drawing a crayon picture- could you say that the resulting image is inherently 'wrong', per se? Or 'right', for that matter? Perhaps he means that creativity's results are not always accepted by others, which is admittedly true, especially in an exam setting.

The same sort of thinking can be applied to his definition of creativity- to a stranger, that child's picture may not be worth very much at all, but to the child's parent it could be priceless. The 'Worth' of an idea is entirely dependant on your point of view.

This video has some interesting ideas on creativity. I think that during this project, I'll try out some of the tips it gives, such as keeping a pen and paper by my bed for sleep-generated ideas.
